The yield is lower, but the ease and speed more than makes up for it. To answer a few more questions, nozzleless rockets typically require faster fuels. Milled BP is sort of the standard. I personally don't believe a ball mill is NECESSARILY required for hot BP, but something of a comparable speed is required.

You'd probably want to run at 'optimum speed' for dry powders, which is about 65% of critical speed. With the diameter of your media (1/2" balls ?) and the INTERIOR diameter of your mill jar, you can calculate the critical speed required, and the by multiplying this by 0.65, you'd arrive at a reasonably optimum speed.

What ball mill should I buy?

Most Expensive / Best Way / Most Efficient: Buy a mill and a jar, and buy lead media.
