I too, have a small Burke horizontal mill and I use the collets for holding end mills. They work well. I haven't bored the spindle for R-8 as I have aquired a fair ammount of B&S #9 tooling at swap meets and engine shows over the past several years. B&S #7 fits some small dividing heads that are currently being imported, but be careful.

A Burke #1 mill. It's been highly modified by a machinist to have full 3 axis control. (Normally these machines had lever feed.) No graduations on the handwheels but I am sure I can use a dial indicator for measurement. The spindle and arbor have been redone with an MT2 taper. Need to rig up a drive system, and use it to mill some slots and such.

My Burke #4 is a universal mill that I bought from a retired Grumman machinist moving to Florida about 20 years ago-they are nice small rigid machines although the single slot table is an inconvenience. It did not come with a vertical head and when I was looking for one I saw that the Burke heads do not allow for much vertical clearance.
