Looking for advice for a good cam to use in my 67 shovelhead 84 inch stroker. Tore it apart and put the s&s 4 1/2 stroke flywheels in it. It is .020 over to clean up the cylinders with 8.5 compression. Has S&S super stock heads with 1.4 shovelhead rockers in them. Running solid lifters. Not looking for all kinds of top end, I want a cam …

Offset Grinding 460 Crank question. I know that offset grinding a 460 crank from a 3.85 stroke to a 4.15 inch stroke is a popular done modification using 2.2 inch big end rods. There is an issue that I have a question about. Going to a 3.85 inch stroke to a 4.15 inch stoke is 300 thousands. So you will need to offset grind 300 thousands off …
4 inch stroke is a huge NO. IT can be done but it is a pain with clearaning everything and getting a cam that can work. Much better and a ton easier and you will like it uch better is to use the 3.875 stroke. You will still need to make some clearance room but it makes life a lot easier. Stay away from 4 inch stroke with standard cam ht.
Jun 9, 2015. #1. I have an F40 Yamaha 4 stroke. When shifting into gear there is a clunk and a grinding sound The reverse gear is worse that the forward shift. Is this a mal-adjusted shift cable or worse. I called the Yamaha headquarters complaint department and was told the situation was normal. A mechanic with a three week wait period to get ...
C3 Tech/Performance - Can you Stroke a 350 without Grinding the Block - Is there an combination of crank, rods, etc that will allow you to stroke a 350 sbc to either 3.625 or 3.75 WITHOUT having …
SBC 400 crankshaft question. I was wondering if my stock 400 SBC crankshaft (3.750 stroke) can be off-set ground to a 3.875 stroke crank to build a low buck stroker 400. Thanks for your input. '69 Chevelle 416" LSA TONY MAMO TFS Heads and custom Hyd roller cam. Motivational Engineering 3.07 12 bolt rear.
The cam location is the limiting factor in the block. Rods get too close to the cam on big stroke applications. 3.625 is the most readily available of the bigger stroke cranks for the 90 degree 6. You can play around and squeeze every last bit out of it if you want to spend a ton of $ and get around 290 ci.
The plan includes appropriate fuel injectors and a Gale Banks header to go along with the increased stroke. My first cam choice was the Comp Cams 68-200-4 but other suggestions include 68-232-4 to ...
The crank is a 391 Ford truck crank. It is forged. It has a 3.78 inch stroke. Rod journal size is 2.438". The crank will be going in a factory 428 block. The bore is currently 4.155". The block is filled with Hardblok up to the water pump holes. I am intending for my next build to be in the 650 hp range. I expect the max rpms to be 7000-7200 or so.
A mild cam can be run on a completely stock valvetrain, and with no fly cutting. I don't think fly cutting is worthwhile unless you absolutely need it for valve clearance (which will only be the case with a huge cam). If you are doing an engine build, replace the cam, the stock one sucks. 2003 F250 6.0.
A Ford 428 has a 4.125 bore and a 4 inch stroke. Go big block. The fomula for swept volume is r -radius (half bore dia) x r x 3.1416 x stroke x number of cylinders. A hot rodders best friends are a tape measure and a calculator. the fomula i got is bore x bore x stroke x number of cylinders x.7854. Like.
For grinding of sealing surfaces between cylinder head and cylinder liner, and between cylinder liner and engine frame on medium bore diesel engines. Standard operating range diameter 320–700 mm. Eliminates and prevents water and gas leakages. Great savings from in-situ grinding and milling.
At 4" stroke, rod-to-cam clearance becomes a problem. It pretty much requires a very small base circle cam be used, along with rods that may need to be ground slightly to clear the cam depending on the brand and design. The rod to pan rail clearance becomes somewhat of an issue, also. I'd stick with a 3.875 stroke or even a 3.750 …
These lobes, through a number of methods, control the opening and closing of the valves, and in doing so have a huge impact on your four-stroke's power and its engine's …
Evan Doran. Associate Editor, Modern Machine Shop. On its surface, grinding seems simple: a machine takes a rotating tool (usually a wheel) with abrasive grains and applies it to a workpiece's surface to remove material. Each grain is its own miniature cutting tool, and as grains dull, they tear from the tool and make new, sharp grains …

DaveH: Lift or lack of it will not determine clearance between the cam and rods. Most cams are ground so the highest part of the lobe is about .020" under the camshaft bearing diameter. Extra lift comes from grinding the base circle smaller. That is the reason for checking pushrod length after installing a higher lift cam.
I'd think the 2 stroke oil for the cam/lifters and white grease (Lubriplate) for the rockers. And FWIW, that technique isn't mine, a buddy of mine had posted that info. Jim D gets credit for explaining that. Return to Engines.

Hey, everyone: From what I understand, stroking a 351W to a 377 (using a 4.7 in. crank) does not require any clearance machining on the block. Does the same apply when stroking to a 393 with a 4.85 crank? Is it possible to use 6.200 in. rods on either or both without having to touch the block? Also, are 3.7-in. cranks available in the …
A 4 1/2 inch stroke could work very well in a Bagger 135 with slightly reduced peak RPM IMHO. In a Dyna, I could see how a S&S 126 with it's 4 1/4 stroke, or maybe a 131 with …
For these reasons, crank grinders typically allow a 0.020-inch safety factor, so the real obtainable stroke increase from a 0.100-inch journal diameter change is about 0.080 inch. Small-block ...
Next one was 4 5/8" stroke 4 1/8" bore this engine was a smooth as silk had a lot of roll on torque. The latest engine has a 4 5/8" stroke 4 5/8" bore pulls like a freight train from off idle all the way to valve float and is very smooth all things considered.
12. When installing the rods and pistons into the block, make sure the chamfer side of the rod faces the filet (outside edge) of the crank journal. Failure to do this will cause the rod cap to ...
