Abstract. Mining geology is a specialised area of applied geological sciences that historically evolved as a support for operating mines and for evaluating mining projects. The main objective of mining geology is to provide detailed geological information, and undertake technical and economic studies to evaluate a mining project.
Geostatistics is extensively being used and is becoming more widely accepted in exploration and mining. However, there are some issues that require cautious consideration, viz. (i) an increase in the mathematical complexity of the theories, and (ii) a decrease in the geological considerations in the estimation process.
